Depending on when you start counting, I have enjoyed being a technology geek for 21 to 31 years. I count myself very lucky to have been born in the information age, because life is a lot more interesting this way!
My career background in two sentences: lots of telecom at Level 3 and MCI (before they were swallowed by the evil Worldcom empire), with some defense contracting in the distant past. Software development at first, followed by "managing" software developers, doing network architecture (that's a great gig), general management, mergers and acquisitions, and finally private consulting (see my consulting company's shingle at www.practiq.com).
More detail here:
2003-present - President, Practiq, Inc.
1997-2003 - Sr. Director, VP and SVP roles at Level 3, including leading Softswitch engineering and architecture functions, leading the Softswitch line of business, and M&A due diligence and integration roles. Reported to Kevin Dundon, Jack Waters, Buddy Miller, Howard Diamond, Don Gips, Charles Meyers, and others.
1999-2002 - Founded the International Softswitch Consortium and served as its president and chairman for three years.
1989-1997 - Software development, Software Management, and Network Architecture roles with MCI Communications.
1986-1989 - Software development roles with Unisys.
In the course of my career I have authored or co-authored 18 patents in the field of Network Management, Voice over IP, and IP Multimedia applications and architectures. I co-authored the Media Gateway Control Protocol.
My hobbies: singing, songwriting, physical fitness, Rockies baseball, church, gardening, and supporting great causes.
My family: the best wife in the universe, and two great sons who make me very proud despite my efforts to derail them.
