Comcast Wins a BUNGL For HD Compression
The Associated Press is now reporting on the additional compression that cable companies are imposing on High Definition channels, that I reported on earlier this month. The 3:1 compression creates a visibly inferior experience. As one user put it:
"I couldn't really tell if what I was seeing was really better than what I saw on regular television"
The point here is that users are being ripped off, paying for high definition channels that they aren't really receiving, and for that achievement, I'm awarding a BUNGL to Comcast.
This makes two BUNGLs for the cable industry, giving them sole position of first place!
12 months+ still complaining about the same issue (network congestion). When Comcast runs well I can get 32 megs downstream and push 6 megs upstream. That's at best, and certainly more than I expect. However, being a commercial account holder, and given the fact that I have begged and offered to pay more simply for my issue to be fixed, with no response, it at best, absolutely ridiculous.
I think all my squeaking has prompted them to split the fiber node. They were installing a huge chassis on a main road close to me, so I am hoping this is what they are doing. It's just ridiculous that this took 12 months, AND STILL COUNTING.
When it's bad, I can barely get 512kbps up/down.
I hope this gets fixed, and I anticipate the day Comcast releases DOCSIS 3.0. I still have hope in the good 'ol cable co! I hope they deliver on my hopes. lol.
